    Plaquenil hives

It does not work against certain types of malaria (chloroquine-resistant). The United States Center for Disease Control provides updated guidelines and travel recommendations for the prevention and treatment of malaria in different parts of the world.

Mar 31, 2008 Ok I started the Plaquenil on Thur night and so have had only about 5 pills. No problems. Last night, to make a long story short, I broke out in HUGE severe hives from my right shoulder down my arm. They were so bad that they went from a cluster to 3 massive hives that blended. May 23, 2016 Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is a medication that has been used for many years to help musculoskeletal symptoms and fatigue in patients with autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and Sjögren’s. Plaquenil and other antimalarials are the key to controlling lupus long-term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives. For this reason, you can think of antimalarials as a sort of “lupus life insurance.”

This medication is also used, usually with other medications, to treat certain auto-immune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) when other medications have not worked or cannot be used. Discuss the most recent information with your doctor before traveling to areas where malaria occurs.

  5. Ok, I just started taking Plaquenil 7 days ago and I just realized I am really really itchy. I looked down at my arms and I have red and white blotchy areas on my forarms. I am starting to itch in my scalp, back, stomach, face and arms now. I think this rash is just starting, so I don't know if it will develope into hives or what.

Hydroxychloroquine HCQ, sold under the brand name Plaquenil among others, is a medication used for the prevention and treatment of certain types of malaria. Specifically it is used for chloroquine-sensitive malaria. Other uses include treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and porphyria cutanea tarda. It is taken by mouth. Plaquenil has beneficial effects on 3 major aspects of lupus; skin rashes, aches & pains and fatigue. It has also been found to help in a number of other features of the disease, though less predictably. It is very effective in the treatment of a whole variety of lupus skin rashes, particularly those found to be worsened by sunlight. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, chloroquine Aralen, and quinacrine Atabrine are medications that were originally used to prevent or treat malaria. However, during World War II it was also found that these medications were effective in treating the symptoms of lupus.
