My side effects resolved after a few weeks. These days I tolerate plaq so well that I take 400mg once a day at night now. It's a great drug if you can work through the initial side effects.

This can be a normal side effect from the plaquenil and it usually lasts a couple of weeks until your body adjusts to it. Medications and Sleep Some common RA medications may also contribute to sleeplessness. One is the steroid prednisone, which can cause insomnia, agitation or depression. Taking it earlier in the day is best, says Dr. Rosian. Another is hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil. It can sometimes causes people to get jumpy, nervous and twitchy.
